  1. The whole purpose of this book is to inform the reader of cadavers and there contribution to science. To do this the author has met with several people who work with cadavers ranging from assistants that helped prepare the cadaver for surgeons to practice producers on to Susanne Wiigh-Masak who is try to replace cremation with a process which essentially turns cadavers into compost.Though out the book the author paints a vivid picture when talking about cadavers. This is picture is definitely used to get reactions from readers. Though out this book these pictures made me interested in what was happening to the cadaver and why it was happening.

    1. The author really does give very vivid descriptions of the human cadavers. I agree with you about the reaction because without the vivid descriptions, I dont think the book could have been as interesting as it was.

    2. What you wrote pretty accurately described the book. The vivid pictures showed by the author were entirely used to get a reaction, and to strengthen her point that the body is going to decompose anyway so why not give it to science.

    3. Those pictures were put there to grab the attention of the reader about the next chapter and to make him want to read a book with such a strange topic as cadavers.

    8. I believe you already know my response but if you are a slow person I agree with every single one of those who replied and yet to. Ms./Mrs. Mary Roach did give us a vivid explanation. I really thought I was next to her while she interviews the scientist (researchers) and have seen the experiments. I like the detail she has put in this book.

    9. I agree with you, Mary Roach does have a very vivid description when she talks about the cadavers and what they do and how they help contribute on the studies of science. After each chapter she would usually place pictures that can also give a vivid view.

  2. The purpose of this book was to teach the readers about cadavers and their many contributions to science without even being alive. To do this, the author travels to different labs, hospitals and colleges and learns about how the people who work with cadavers do and how the cadavers are used for different things. The message of the book can be interpreted differently but I took it as a learning effect, I learned a lot from this book, some things I would have never learned if it weren't for my reading this book. The author definitely caught my attention with her spunky, sarcastic tone and her vivid visualization aspect of the text.

    2. I agree that the author made the book mostly about cadavers and their contribution to science. She used history to show how cadavers could have helped, and how now they help research very much. She believes cadavers are an important part of experiments and education.

    3. I agree, the author proves that cadavers can be used for the betterment of science in her journeys to labs, hospitals, and colleges. She disagrees with some people who believe that using cadavers for scientific purposes are disrespectful. She showed the fun things on cadavers.

    4. I also noticed as part of the learning effect that during the book, as she learned more, you could see that her knowledge was enhancing and that she was exited to know more about cadavers. Her sarcastic tone also made me want to keep on reading as well, it was one of those books where as soon as you read the first chapter, you just know that the author uses sarcasm a lot.

    5. I agree with you entirely. The author proves througout the book that cadavers are a great contribution to help science move foward. I also learned alot from all the fascinating stories she added inn her book. And her tone in the book was very sarcastic, which helped me read it better. Knowing that I was reading about dead bodies.

    6. I agree completely. The author proved that cadavers contribute to society and science. She used her experience, stories, she traveled, she spoke about history, proving that the human cadaver's role is very important. Roach caught my attention as well with her sarcastic tone. I could not stop reading.

    7. I felt the same about the book. While she told the story, she used such vivid details that I felt like I was with her traveling and learning about cadavers. When she'd talk about smell, and the rest of the senses, I could imagine a smell, and visualize what she was talking about. I also took the story as a learning experience, as well as an entertaining experience. She informs us and makes us laugh.

    8. I agree that her tone caught my attention and I wanted to keep reading. Her experience and historical fact made the book interesting.

    9. I agree with everything said about this book. I learned a lot from just 12 chapters. the way Mary Roach explained everything in vivid detail was amazing. I am the type of Person that needs to imagine to understand what is going on and there was a lot of imagining in this book. It was an entertaining learning experience. Many of the things said i took to knowledge. Now I know many other ways to use a cadaver.

    10. I too agree about the things stated about the author’s purpose to this book. I read and learned a lot of things that without this book, I never would have even heard of. Before reading this book, I didn't even know what a human cadaver was! All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and felt as if I were literally almost going through her journey with her as she had very vibrant descriptions throughout the book. Additionally, her piece of sarcasm always wanted to make me keep reading!

  3. The authors main reason for writing this book was to intrigue and teach the readers all about how the use of human cadavers has evolved and how the dead bodies have actually been used for many different purposes such as: research, teaching and learning purposes. The author conveys the message by doing some research of her own and traveling to many different places to observe how the human cadavers are actually being used to educate and learn. I think that the message of this book is to share with readers basically what human cadavers are currently being used for and how they got to this point. I think that the author wants to inform the reader and pass on her knowledge of the interesting life of a human cadaver. The speaker tries to amaze the reader with all the interesting facts about how exactly human dead bodies are being used. The text is supposed to make me feel interested in what actually goes on "behind the scenes". The intended affect of this book is to catch the readers attention and hold on to it for the entire book with interesting facts and stories.

    1. The author does use many resources and she also traveled to various places to observe the human cadavers. The information used in her book made a rather clear and vivid description in my mind, like I was right next to Mary Roach and it gave me some rather funny thoughts. This book has made my perspective of the human cadavers rather different than what I expected.

    2. I completely argue with you Michael, I couldn't argue more that the authors does give us interesting and funny facts about how exactly dead bodies are being used. Lizzamay, I also argue that the novel did change my perspective of the human cadavers.I used to have a rather disgusted perspective of human cadavers and quit frankly I was frightened by them.

      Delete
    3. So I am going to say this to all three of you; Micheal, Ginell and Lizzamay (even though you are my sister and I can tell you this at home)but mostly Ginell. I do believe that Ms./Mrs. Mary Roach did right this story to inform us about the human cadavers but why should we be disgusted or frightened by them. These human cadavers use to be living and walking on this earth just like you and I. They just have donated their bodies to research (or science). If you do not want to donate your body to research then good for you. But we shouldn't be frightened or disgusted that some people donated their body for research. If some people didn't even donate their body then we wouldn't know what is inside us or how we get sick or why we use the restroom. But either I am just putting my opinion out there. No offense to any of you, if I have offended you.

    4. I agree that the text helps readers understand how the cadavers are used and how they are treated. This helps us gain a new perspective on the subject of human experimentation in an entertaining pleasant -or at times unpleasant- way.

Make sure have carefully read what I wrote before you make your self look like a fool..

  4. The author's reason for writing this text was to inform the lives of human cadavers, how cadavers dated back in history, and (maybe) had a laugh or two. Mary Roach has conveyed her message by watching the lives of the cadavers. She went to many places, met many people, and had some thoughts to educate the purpose of human cadavers in life. The message was more likely to make a human (that's alive) learn what is being done to dead bodies and how they could benefit (or not) to the people that are alive. The text is suppose to make the readers rather interested in what was going on to the dead and question about the human cadavers. The intended effect was to have the reader's attention, interest, and opinions throughout the book with history of the human cadavers, Mary's thoughts, questions, stories, and humor.

    1. I agree that the entire book was mostly focused on the history of cadavers, how they were hated, and are now tolerated. She believes that we should give our body for the benefit of science so that cadavers may continue to be used.

    2. I also think that the author wanted us to laugh at certain times as not to be kept in such a serious tone during the book. I really liked how she would go to people and have first hand experience rather than having the whole book written by using past events.

    3. Totally. Roach incorporated a lot of humor into the book, while still revolving around the main idea of cadavers and their usage. I agree with you're interpretation of the intended effect, very spot on.

    4. I also agree that Roach used a lot of humor by adding in various side comments throughout each chapter. Also with her going to get first hand experience with cadavers shows how she is able to keep a reader interested.

    5. Mary Roach wrote this book, not only to inform us about cadavers, but also to find answers for herself. To cope with the loss of her mother, she did a lot of research about cadavers. I guess she thought it would be great to share her findings with everyone.

  5. The author wrote this book to tell the reader about cadavers' contributions to the world we live in today. She wants us to appreciate the fact that cadavers test things from bullet proof vests to cars and seat belts. She shows throughout the book that the reason our cars protect us from the full hit of the crash, and bullet proof vests deflect bullets is because a man or woman gave their body to scientific research.

    1. I agree with you, because the author does inform the reader about how corpses that have donated their body to science have been able to help us save lives from unnatural causes of death. Such as murders, car crashes, and so on. She also gives a lot of credit to the cadavers because of all their contributions to science.

    2. I agree with you that Mary Roach wants the reader to appreciate cadaveric contributions to science, and how cadavers helped us figure out how to save human lives.

    3. I personally agree to your statement Alexander. Without human cadavers back then we wouldn't have known what to do if someone is bleeding from a gun shot or how to protect ourselves from a gun shot. Without the people who donated their bodies for science (research) we wouldn't know what we know today.

    4. I also think that the reason Mary Roach wrote the book was to inform readers about how cadavers have contributed to science, medicine, history, and even to our safety. Also to inform the readers about what their bodies can do to help the living and in a way even convince them to do good for the rest of the living people with their dead body.

  6. the author's purpose for writing this book was to inform that cadavers are not useless things, they can be used for new discoveries and inventions. for example they used cadavers to test France's fist guillotines. there are some things in science that we humans (alive) cannot test because of harmful ads. the author's informed that cadavers have a purpose just like everything on earth.

    1. I agree with what you wrote, because the author does provide a lot of information on how cadavers can help us in science, proving that human cadavers can help us even though they are dead. Such as testing car crashes to help us reduce the amount of deaths that occur in a car crash and much more.

    2. You have a very good point. I think people now and days are oblivious to the fact that many life saving methods, techniques and such have been developed through the use of cadavers. For example, if we didn't use cadavers, I don't think we could have progressed as well in terms of medicine.

    3. I also see that the purpose of this book is to inform us of how cadavers are used and what they are used for.

    4. Cadavers play a huge role in science. Even though they may seem useless, they have helped create new discoveries. They are also good for experiments that are too dangerous to perform on a live subject.

I believe the whole purpose of writing this book is to inform that cadavers can be used for the betterment of science. some people think that using cadavers for science is disrespectful but in this book I was informed that cadavers can be used for the betterment of science. for example they used cadavers to test France's first guillotine. this book thought me why used cadavers for nothing when you can use it for something.

  8. I assume that the purpose for writing the book Stiff is because the author wants to show us how corpses can be beneficial to science and us. She explains how corpses can be of great use to us in various chapters of the book. She also points out how corpses can save lives, help us learn more about human anatomy, and much more. Plus she writes vivid descriptions about how the corpses are able to help us in so many ways. As I was reading this book, I truly felt that the book is an eye opener to what occurs to the human body when a person dies and the many contributions one corpse give to science to help us learn more.

  9. The author's purpose for writing the text was to inform/educate the reader about the 'lives' and history of cadavers. I think the intended effect is to make readers more comfortable with dying.

    3. Personally, Roach did seem to have that effect on me of causing me to feel more comfortable with death itself. But that's also because she presents death as something that can be lifesaving. Seems contradicting, yet it's very true.

  10. The author's reason for writing the book was to inform the reader about the contributions and use of cadavers in science. In my opinion the author try's to do this by including real scientists facts and their opinions. Also she visits highly acclaimed colleges and universities to try to give a sense of truth to the reader. I think she wrote this book to try to make the reader more comfortable with the idea of death and it makes the readers feel a bit weird. But it is an instructive book about the uses and discoveries made with the help of cadavers.

  11. The author's purpose of writing this book is to inform readers that cadavers has impacked science in a major way. The author conveyed her message by camparing other science observations with her own observations. The message is to show us what cadavers go through and how they may or may not benefit us in the future. The author wants the reader to stay interested by being humurous so the reader would want to keep reading. The intended effect the author wanted was to keep the reader entertained while also informing them on the history of cadavers.

  12. The purpose of “Stiff” was to inform readers of cadavers use in science, as well as to share her experiences that she had while learning the information herself. She gathers her information by meeting up with people that have experience in the field or particular area that she needs information on. From there they take a journey through where those people work, and share useful information. What I took as the message from this book is that there is much knowledge yet to be discovered, and that science has many secrets. The message of the novel is for the reader to understand the reason why cadaver testing is important and how it has helped anatomy evolve. The speaker tries to spark a reaction in the audience by giving vivid description about what exactly is being done to the dead bodies that are not donated to science. 23. The novel "Stiff" by Mary Roach was to inform the reader the importance of cadavers and the different ways they have contributed to science. Roach does this by visiting many different colleges, hospitals, and laboratories and meeting with scientists and researchers and expand her knowledge on cadavers. The message is to explain that human cadavers are not useless and have actually been great contributions to science. The author tries to spark a reaction in the audience by instead of making a dull novel about dead people, she makes it very interesting by adding sarcasm and humor while staying on topic. 24. The speaker's reason for writing the book, "Stiff", was to inform people of cadavers and the important role they've played in science for centuries. The author conveys the message of the purpose through numerous anecdotes of her experiences learning about the various uses of cadavers in scientific research as well as significant events in history directly relating to cadaver research. I believe the message of the book itself is that cadavers are used more greatly than most would initially think, not just in discovering more about human anatomy, but in science in general.
The speaker tries to spark a reaction in the audience through incredibly descriptive analyses of certain uses of cadavers. The text is supposed to make you feel like you are right there with the author on one of her visits to a research site, lab, etc. It's intended effect is not so much to disgust people, but to give them vivid and exact descriptions of the human body after death.

But after reading this book I learned there is really so much more to dead people then it looks. The author really tries to tell us of everything by inputting her opinion subtly in the text. Mary Roach’s reason for writing “Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers” is to show readers how Cadavers can help contribute to science and possible save the lives of people in need or for any other reason. The author conveys the message by traveling to places where she can witness and research about cadavers and what and how they’re used for. The message of this book is to inform us that people who are dead, in this case cadavers, cant still help, whether if its fro studies or saving a persons life. I learned many things from this book and some things that I would have never even thought of. Its intended effect is to make you want to learn more as to what a human body can simply do even though he or she is already dead, and what it can do fascinates the readers.

  28. The author's reason for writing the text was to inform us about cadavers and explain to us on how they contribute to science. To do this, the author goes to many places for her researches and met with many people. She also had many resources. She gives us a vivid and an interesting description on what they do on cadavers. The message of this book was to tell us about the usefulness of cadavers. Through out the whole book she wrote humorously and sarcastically, without disrespecting, which really caught my attention. This book really made me feel interested about the thought-provoking facts. The intended effect was to tell us death is not the end.

  29. The purpose of "Stiff" is to explain and inform the readers about the various ways cadavers can be and have been used for scientific purposes. The author simply found a topic that fascinated her and wrote this book in hopes of also fascinating the readers with the countless amount of information she had accumulated. The author achieves this by describing the various procedures cadavers have undergone dating centuries back to modern times; cadavers that have been used for organ donations, practicing surgery, testing automobiles, head transplants, crucification experiments, and even medicinal cannibalism. It leaves the readers impressed and astonished with all the experiences a body can undergo after death, some of them useful, some of them not so much.

  30. The purpose of this book was to inform readers about human cadavers and their various uses to science and research. The author is not shy about explaining in detail what the Cadavers look like and smell like by creating vivid imagery in the mind that is disturbing and cool at the same time. She also uses humor to lighten things up from time to time and it does a good job of keeping the reader interested. She also has little interesting footnotes at the bottom of some pages that have some really interesting facts that the reader probably didn't know. No doubt what she conveys in her book can be disturbing, but the imagination and curiosity of what happens to a person after death makes me turn the page every time which I believe was the intended affect.

While informing the readers of cadavers, Mary conveys the message of the purpose by using previous experience with cadavers. The message from the book is that cadavers are extremely useful, helpful, and necessary in research, to be able to gain new knowledge on numerous aspects. The speaker try's to spark a reaction in the reader by using intriguing details, it makes the reader feel as if they are there with Mary. The speaker acknowledges every single sense which makes the book even more interactive than it already is. 32. The purpose of the book Stiff was to inform readers of cadavers and the accomplishment in science through cadavers. All the chapters are differing and they cover a lot of subjects involving cadavers, humor in the book helps to take away from the disgust and gore and makes it more readable. The message Mary Roach has expressed through this book is the work of human cadavers is important, even though the book is humorous she believes that cadavers must be treated with respect. Clearly Mary Roach knows she has to get the attention of the reader so she opens with heads on a platter, i was imidiady turned off from this book after reading the first chapter,it was suppose to interest the reader and make them want to keep reading.

  33. The author wanted to educate their readers about how there is much to death than just an final chapter in a person’s life. Though, someone who passes away can no longer do much, Mary Roach shows readers through her text, “Stiff” that after death, one can contribute in many different ways and actually not fade away as one may think. Whether it be from saving a person’s live with the donation of organs, or benefiting medical students and much more, there truly is more to death than meets the eye. Overall, the author wanted to show readers that death isn't something ugly.

  34. Mary Roach's purpose for writing this text was to allow individuals unfamiliar with cadavers to learn and explore the many different ways they are used in many branches of research, extending from in the lab to working with the military. Roach does an excellent job at giving passages lots of detail in order to "feel" like the reader is actually there, dissecting, watching, and learning about cadavers. The text is educational, however Roach includes lots of humor into the book every now and then, keeping the book entertaining as well as hilarious. The book's intended effect could be to teach us what cadavers are and what they are used for, as well as give historical information about cadavers.

  35. The purpose of this text was to explain/inform readers about the interesting lives of human cadavers and their contributions to science today. Mary Roach traveled to different labs, university's, and hospitals researching and interviewing different people who have or had worked on human cadavers. Mary Roach would also researched the history of the human cadavers to show the importance of how they were used in science. Humans cadavers experiments helped affect our daily lives today. The message of the book was to show readers the history of what happen to cadavers when they were in lab, what was being done to them, and how the save many lives today. Mary Roach uses vivid descriptions of what happened to cadavers in the experiment labs. The author, also used humor to make the text less serious and more appealing to her readers. The text made me realize that there is more to death, than I thought and it made me more comfortable with the subject of death. The intended effect was to show readers the history behind cadavers, with a little piece of humor intended.

  36. The author’s purpose in writing “Stiff” was to teach readers about cadavers and their contributions to science. Reading the book teaches you the process of cadavers and what happens to them. The speaker uses a sarcastic yet interesting way of approaching the topic. She uses very vivid descriptions to not only catch the readers’ attention, but to thoroughly explain each part of the book. The author makes you feel as she did with her many experiences as she visits the various places (ex. labs, hospitals, etc.). In my opinion, the message she was trying to portray was that cadavers aren’t so useless after all. Many scientific discoveries have been made due to their studies and who knows what science could be without them? I feel Roach catches the readers attention not only by giving us interesting historical facts that most of us probably were not aware of, but also by letting her personality pull through the book. Some parts of the book I found more interesting than others, but she gets her point across. She teaches readers valuable information while at the same time entertaining us as well.

This book is about cadavers and how they work along with how they are used. The author travels often visiting labs, meeting different scientists and learning more about their discoveries. Many interesting facts and discoveries were taught throughout this book. While the book teaches and literally almost takes you throughout this adventure in which Roach went through. This book can be disturbing yet fascinating and very informative. The author not only taught me things but also made me realize that human cadavers are not just bodies of dead people, but can be really useful. Before reading this book, I thought otherwise that dead bodies were just dead and not very useful. After reading “Stiff” I’ve learned that they are not only fascinating but also a great contribution to society. In my opinion, this was the message of the author, which leads to very captivated readers, just like me.

  38. The Purpose of the book "Stiff" is to inform readers of how humans -dead or alive- can contribute their bodies to science. Throughout the book the narrator has explored different fields of science -Medicine, Ballistics, etc- to see how they've utilized cadavers to help them understand their work. She also teaches how we should treat cadavers with the respect and dignity they deserve and how most people need to become emotionally detached before even thinking of working on a dead body. The book can have it's dark moments where you find yourself imagining them actually dissecting a cadaver, but thankfully the author provides some comical relief. The book has it's ways of being disturbing yet intriguing at the same time, but all in all is an informative read, I've learned some new things and retouched on things i already had known.

  42. The author's purpose for writing the text is to describe cadavers and, essentially, what happens to the dead that donate their bodies then and now. As well as the lives of the not so compliant cadavers. Mary Roach talks about how they have benefited the medical field, and science as a whole. She conveys this message by providing many facts and details, as well as descriptions of some of her own encounters with cadavers. She includes anecdotes and her own personal stories. The message is that even after you are dead, your body is not a waste and can be a huge contribution to science and research (should you decide to do so with your body after death). The author sparks a reaction in her audience by using vivid details and humor to catch their attention and inform them. The text is supposed to make you feel interested in cadavers as a whole. 43. Mary Roach suffered a personal loss and wanted to learn more about death and what happens to a person’s body after they die. I think writing the book and doing her research helped her cope. She interviews many scientists and does historical and scientific research. She then presents her findings in the different chapters. Cadavers aren’t just dead bodies. There is more to death than what we initially think. Discoveries and breakthroughs have happened thanks to cadavers. Some of the descriptions were gross and shocking, but some discoveries insightful. At the end of the book I have more appreciation and respect towards dead bodies.

I am glad to now know that cadavers have contributed to the living - from bulletproof vests to car crash subjects. I agree with Roach when she says that cadaver's could be really useful to the scientific field and that it would be a terrible thing to waste. The last chapter of the novel also made you wonder what would you want to do with your cadaver once you passed away. I'm glad that Roach has written this novel - it really has open my eyes and expanded my knowledge on death/cadavers.

  46. Mary Roach’s reason for writing the text is to inform readers about cadavers and what can be done with the body postmortem. She writes about their contribution to science, medicine, and history. To inform the readers about what they can do with their cadavers other than waste them like helping science, medicine, education, the wellbeing of others, and even the environment. Mary Roach conveys the message of the purpose by traveling all around the world and researching the use of human cadavers and the different ways to rid of the body. I think the message is that cadavers have been used throughout history for medicine and science so it is more practical and useful to use your dead body for the good of others. I think her purpose was to let the reader feel like they have options about what to do with their dead bodies that can actually help others and even the environment. The speaker tries to take the reader in by making these stories about the gory truth of studying a cadaver. The text really made me fill almost ill inside but yet exited to read along. 51. Mary wrote this book to inform us on the importance of people even though they are no longer alive. I n her perspective cadavers are as helpful as us living humans. she lets us know about some but not all of the contributions they have to science and how they help living humans to better our lives. When brain dead cadavers donate their living organs to people in need they preserve the lives of others even though those people can not thank the donor the donor congratulated them by signing up for it. And many other things she lets us know that cadavers don't always have to be scary they can be very helpful. She also tells us interesting and funny facts when the subject can be gross but educational at the same time.

  52. Mary Roach's reason for writing the text was because the death of her loved one lead her to discovering a passion for forensics. She became curious and settled that curiosity with this lovely book. Nobody wants death to be the complete ending, so perhaps thinking this she wanted to convince herself that this wasn't the absolute end for her mom? By writing the story in first person, she lets the reader in on what she experienced, but she also informs us of some personal reasoning at the beginning of Stiff. From then, as the book progresses, we learn about some of the countless stories about how cadavers can be used for more than just a burial. We give life after death a second thought. It interests me because I never really thought to think of the morgue cadavers in that sort of way, before I had read this book at least.
Generally, Mary wrote this book to tell stories about the dead not really being dead. Of course she did not write it to intentionally gross you out, though I assume that she would prepare herself for that kind of audience. Some people, like myself, may have found this interesting! Of course I can't say for certain that the whole audience would agree but usually that is what you have to expect when you write a book. You can intentionally attempt to make the reader feel a certain way, but there is no guarantee that the specific reader will feel as though you planned. So, I'd think Mary wrote this book for you to feel informed. To look at life at a different way other than "death is the end of it". Not Grossed out or intrigued.

  53. Gabi she also wanted us to know that being dead doesn't mean that you cant do something useful with yourself. She even described to us, in debt, some of the things we can do that is useful for other deceased people or alive ones. I think she also wants to let us readers know that the way we are living now, keeping our bodies safe and healthy, did not just come to a researchers mind it took numerous trials to make perfection. And many cadavers to help do so.

  54. The speaker purpose throughout the book was to describe the human cadavers that she observed. She does this in a very unconventional way to spark a reaction in the audience by adding humor and interesting stories of the anatomy students that she came across, and her own views on the bodies. The intended affect is for the subject of dead bodies to not come off too serious or scary/grotesque , but instead more useful and interesting. The cadavers are used to help many anatomy students and researchers learn more about the human body and see how certain operations such as facelifts will come along.Throughout the book she points out different parts of the body to still inform the reader about anatomy.

She conveys the message by using light and respectful humor to help the reader feel more comfortable learning about cadavers. The message is that the world of cadavers is not scary or repulsive, its something we need for knowledge. Stiff is intended to apprise and enlighten people of the many versatile uses of cadavers, ultimately to convince the reader to bequeath their body to science. For this purpose she has traveled throughout the world, meeting and researching with various scientists who work on cadavers. Mary Roach uses humor to her advantage, retaining a consistent aura of comfort and practicality while describing cadavers and all of what’s happened or will happen to them. She strives to transform and diversify the customary perspective of death and the dead, indirectly spurring the reader to crack a joke whenever the subject is brought up.

The speaker tries to spark a reaction in the audience by telling us the truth behind what happens with the cadavers. The story made me feel sick but it didn't stop me from reading. For the reader to really understand how it works, the author felt compelled to meet with several people who work in the field of anatomy, ranging from the surgeon's secretary to the surgeons ad those who prepare the body for the surgery. The message of the story is basically that more people should be informed on cadavers and the science behind them. I think that the narrator tries to spark a reaction by putting a photo before each chapter, and a title that could kind of confuse the reader, making them want to read more.
